"It's a wonderful place. It' easy to get around. Everyone helps each other and functions as a true community. The surroundings are comfortable and helpful to blind people who are learning to become independent. " -  Vista Nova Resident

Vista Nova Renaissance Community is for individuals 18 years and older who are blind or have severe vision loss. Our mission is to provide the blind and visually impaired with quality housing that facilitates their independence, offers a positive environment for persons adjusting to vision loss and opportunities for creative living.  We are a residential community.  Vista Nova operates as an intentional community organized to provide living accommodations for blind and visually impaired persons. Our community is not an institution, group home or assisted living facility. Vista Nova is not licensed, staffed or capable of providing for visually impaired persons requiring assistance with the administration of medications, personal hygiene or help with chronic medical conditions.

Vista Nova is a place that inspires blind adults to help each other. Residents support each other with practical information about accessible services in the community. Our community of residents, staff and volunteers engage in cultural activities that encourage self-expression, promote interpersonal growth and cultivate trusting relationships.

Vista Nova Renaissance Community opened its doors in 1965. The founders Hadley and Zeola Stephensen were both blind. The Stephensens were community leaders in Pasadena. They were committed to serving as advocates for the dignity of blind people.  It was their vision  that led to the establishment of Vista Nova on Prescott Street in Northwest Pasadena.

A common assumption is that an exclusive blind community leads to isolation. Quite the contrary. Residents of Vista Nova Renaissance Community help to empower each other to develop their unique potential and  to live very full lives. We continue to partner with many organizations and service clubs in the San Gabriel Valley.
